Music and festivals are about togetherness and joy. However, having Kneecap perform at the Wide Awake Festival this year poses a significant problem for Jewish individuals and allies who feel horrified by Kneecap’s endorsement of Hamas and Hezbollah.

Instead of using their platform to spread the message of peace and coexistence they use it to spread division and endorse terrorist groups, one of which violently raped and murdered in cold blood nearly 400 innocent civilians at the Nova Festival on October 7th 2023 - 13 of which are still being held captive in Gaza. 

We are advocates of free speech and are open to hearing views of others even if we disagree. But allowing a band to perform, that endorses violence and condones terrorist organisations that target Jews, without impunity, is wrong. 

The Wide Awake Festival has long been celebrated for its diverse and inclusive lineup, promoting unity and acceptance through music. Allowing Kneecap to perform at this cherished event sends the wrong message, inadvertently endorsing behaviours and views that many find deeply troubling.

The removal of Kneecap from the lineup will not only uphold the festival’s values but will also demonstrate a commitment to respecting all attendees, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the music free from fear of violence or discrimination.
