Remove Kai Schwemmer as College Republicans of America Political Director
The Issue
Kai Schwemmer was recently appointed as the political director of the College Republicans of America — and a Guardian investigation has revealed a deeply troubling record that has no place in student leadership.
Livestream recordings reviewed by the Guardian show Schwemmer stating he would accept a world where slavery was legal if abortion was banned. He describes himself as "very much an anti-universal suffrage guy" and has expressed support for restricting women's right to vote through a "family voting" system — a Christian nationalist proposal that would hand voting power exclusively to male heads of households. He has said he opposes same-sex marriage and would support repealing legal protections for it.
The recordings also document years of antisemitic commentary, including a 2023 stream in which Schwemmer walked a stranger through a series of leading questions designed to prime antisemitic conclusions — then celebrated on air by saying, "We radicalized another one." He has celebrated DNA test results showing he has "0% Jewish blood," and has made homophobic statements claiming gay men are "weaponizing" gyms to spread HIV.
Schwemmer has long operated in the orbit of white nationalist influencer Nick Fuentes, streaming on his platform for years and attending his conferences. As recently as August 2025 — after claiming a "process of growth" had changed his views — Schwemmer told a podcast audience, "Yes, I am a fan of Nick."
Researchers at the Southern Poverty Law Center and Political Research Associates have both flagged Schwemmer as a far-right figure whose recent rebranding does not match his actions.
College campuses must be places where every student — regardless of race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation — can participate in civic and political life without fear. Putting someone with this record in charge of a national college political organization sends a dangerous message to Jewish students, students of color, women, and LGBTQ+ students across the country.
We call on the College Republicans of America to immediately remove Kai Schwemmer as political director.
