Remove Jody Lee from Graduation Platform

The Issue

As a Jewish student in the class of 2025 at Mercer Island High School, Board member Lee’s antisemetic and inappropriate conduct on social media is highly concerning:https://e73de3f0-a0fd-4b07-ae63-9839b81231a9.usrfiles.com/ugd/e73de3_219d7cd604c64120aab378aa46bd2b02.pdf

It's alarming to see board member Lee who, through her social media, has openly shared antisemitic views, highly sexualized content, and endorsements of drug use. Graduation is a significant milestone for my fellow classmates and me, and it deserves a celebration that is respectful and dignified.

Jody Lee's presence on the graduation stage represents our school's endorsement of her conduct. Given the values that we as a community and district strive to uphold—respect, inclusivity, and safety—it is inconsistent to allow someone with such a public and divisive presence to represent our school on one of the most important days of our lives. Her social media activities have caused concern among both parents and children.

Given the recent tragedy that took place in DC, we as a community need to separate ourselves from the anti-Israel and anti-semitic extremism that is plaguing our country. Allowing someone who has called for violence on her social media to be present betrays not only our Jewish students, but the entire student body.

By preventing Jody Lee from being on stage during graduation, we can ensure that the focus remains on the achievements and hard work of the amazing students, without the overshadowing presence of someone who represents values contrary to our community's beliefs and standards.

I urge the decision-makers within the Mercer Island School District to act, ensuring that our graduation is a true celebration of diversity and respect. Please sign this petition if you agree that it's time to protect the integrity of our school events and uphold the values that truly represent the Mercer Island community. Let’s ensure a graduation day free of controversy and representative of our highest standards. Please join me by signing this petition.
