Nissan's latest Infinity commercial is very offensive to music students, parents and music teachers. The commercial features what looks like a student band or orchestra playing the introductory passage from Also Sprach Zarathustra, better known as the theme from the movie 2001, A Space Odyssey.
Music teachers to their best to grow the performance ability of their students as well as a love for music. Although they do not sound like a professional group, they rarely sound this bad.  This commercial makes a mockery of all the efforts music educators put into their careers. These kids are beginners and they are trying their best. Mocking them in a commercial like this one does them and their teachers a great disservice. Young musicians improve through encouragement and positive reinforcement, not ridicule. Music education is a valuable part of a child's education and there have been multiple studies showing that students who study music have a greater degree of success in later life. Making a mockery of this is unhelpful. It encourages people to discount music education as a frill or something that is an extra.

Please pull this commercial immediately and issue an apology to all the hardworking music educators and their students.
