Remove ICE from our communities

Remove ICE from our communities
The Issue
I was reading my local news website and came across a distressing story about an 18-month-old girl named Amalia. Her childhood has been marred by the harsh conditions imposed by our own government. Young Amalia was forced to wait in a long line with her parents to obtain medication that doctors had prescribed for her. And it seemed forever. Amalia became critically ill and was rushed to the hospital. Amalia spent ten harrowing days there, battling life-threatening respiratory illnesses. Makes you mad? It should!
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) actions have detrimental effects on our communities. Stories like Amalia's are not isolated incidents but part of a larger, alarming pattern where families live in constant fear of accessing necessary services, which should be a basic human right. ICE's presence creates a chilling effect, preventing individuals and families from seeking the medical assistance they need, leading to dire health consequences.
According to Human Rights Watch, ICE operations have significantly impacted immigrant communities, particularly affecting children who are the most vulnerable members of our society. This environment of fear and uncertainty must be addressed, and communities should be safe havens, free from intimidation and harm.
We demand that local authorities reevaluate ICE's role in our neighborhoods. Removing ICE from our streets will allow families to live without clinging to fear, improve public health outcomes, and foster a much-needed trust between residents and local governments.
Our neighborhoods deserve safety, unity, and dignity for all residents, regardless of their immigration status. To protect Amalia and countless others, we must come together to champion change. Demand action – sign this petition to remove ICE from our communities and protect the health and safety of all children and families.
