Attention anti-ICE protesters, immigration attorney Margaret W. Wong, democratic lawmakers, immigrant neighbors, and community members! I’m deeply concerned and angry about the presence of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents at U.S. airports across the country, including here in Cleveland Hopkins International Airport in Hopkins, Cleveland, Ohio attempted the arrest all undocumented immigrants. This issue isn't just a personal matter but a national concern that affects countless lives every day.

Imagine traveling through airports, a supposed nexus of connectivity and freedom, only to be met with fear and intimidation by ICE agents. This environment is increasingly hostile for immigrants and travelers who simply want to move freely without the looming fear of detention or deportation. This overreach of ICE's mandate creates a chilling effect, discouraging even legal residents and citizens from feeling secure in their travels. It’s time for action!

Currently, we have the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to handle airport security—a force more than capable of maintaining safety without the fearmongering tactics employed by ICE. By maintaining TSA's presence while removing ICE agents, airports can be safe yet welcoming environments for all travelers.

We need leaders to step up, particularly authorities like Cleveland Mayor Justin M. Bibb and immigration attorney Margaret W. Wong, to take a stand against this unnecessary and intrusive presence of ICE. Community voices expressing that fear and surveillance have no place at our airports can drive decisive change.

Moreover, this push aligns with a broader need to reassess past national policies and practices that have sown division and mistrust. Let’s bypass remnants of previous administrations, such as the policies under president Donald J. Trump, that have perpetuated fear and division.
