The Issue

Illinois law (510 ILCS 70/3.01 – Humane Care for Animals Act) prohibits acts of abuse and neglect against animals.

A trusted position in animal control demands the highest standards of compassion and integrity.

Seeing someone, who is supposed to protect and care for our community's most vulnerable animals, allegedly engage in such cruel behavior is beyond shocking.

In our small community of Herrin, IL, trust in public officers, especially those responsible for animal welfare, is foundational to maintaining a safe and humane environment for all beings.

This recent incident has stirred feelings of betrayal, fear, and anger among concerned citizens who believed animals were safe in the city's care.

Footage capturing such aggressive conduct towards a defenseless puppy undermines the very essence of the Humane Care for Animals Act, which exists to ensure animals are treated with kindness and respect.

The responsibilities of an animal control officer are not to be taken lightly. Their role is essential in ensuring that animals are provided with a haven, free from harm and fear.

This incident tarnishes the reputation of those who genuinely work to protect animals and adhere to the ethical standards outlined by Illinois law.

Therefore, it is imperative that an immediate and thorough investigation is conducted to ascertain the facts surrounding this incident.

Community trust can only be restored through transparency and accountability.

The warden involved should be removed from his post, to ensure that no other animals endure similar mistreatment.

This is not just about justice for one puppy; it is about safeguarding all animals in our care from potential future harm.

By signing this petition, you join in demanding urgent action to uphold the integrity of our animal welfare system by removing the Herrin Animal Control Warden #1, Jason Englebright from his duties.

This step is vital to reassure our community that no act of cruelty will be tolerated, and animal safety remains our top priority.

Please lend your voice to this cause and help make a meaningful change.
