Remove Harmful Nets from Normandie Court to Protect Pigeon Families

The Issue

I am a resident of the Upper East Side, Manhattan, New York, NY, USA. Every day as I walk through my neighborhood, I pass by Normandie Court and witness a heartbreaking sight - nets strung up around the building that are causing harm to our local pigeon families. These nets have been installed with the sole purpose of reducing bird droppings around the building. However, they are proving fatal for these innocent birds who have been mascots of NYC for over a hundred years.

Pigeons play an essential role in our urban ecosystem. They help control other pests and their droppings act as natural fertilizers. More importantly, they are sentient beings deserving respect and compassion just like any other living creature.

The nets at Normandie Court not only trap and kill adult pigeons but also jeopardize their young ones' survival who rely on them for food and warmth during harsh winters.

This cruel method is not only unnecessary but also ineffective in controlling bird populations long-term as per studies conducted by Humane Society International (HSI). There are more humane ways to manage bird populations without causing harm or distress such as using deterrents or modifying habitats.

We cannot stand by while these innocent creatures suffer needlessly due to human inconvenience. We urge the management at Normandie Court to remove these harmful nets immediately and seek alternative humane solutions for managing bird populations.

Please sign this petition if you believe in protecting all animals from unnecessary cruelty and preserving our city's rich biodiversity heritage.
