Remove Harmful METAL Spikes from Lamp Posts at St Leonard's and Indented Head ramp
The issue
As a resident deeply connected to the natural beauty of St Leonard’s and Indented Head, I have observed with concern the installation of spikes on lamp posts near the ramp and pier. These spikes pose a significant threat to our local bird population, particularly the pelicans that have long been an iconic symbol of this area. Recently, we even erected a beautiful art piece in their honour on the main Street. There is a simple solution put poles in the water, pelicans happy, fishermen happy, cheap to do and no ongoing maintenance.
Pelicans and other birds use these lamp posts as resting spots during their daily routines. The spikes not only disrupt these routines but also pose physical dangers to them. According to BirdLife International, such urban obstacles contribute significantly to bird injuries (BirdLife International, 2018).
It is crucial for us as responsible citizens and stewards of nature to ensure that our urban designs do not harm wildlife. By removing these spikes from lamp posts at St Leonard's and Indented Head, we can protect our cherished pelican and bird population and maintain the natural charm that defines our community.
Please sign this petition urging local authorities to take immediate action in removing these harmful spikes from the lamp posts at St Leonard's and Indented Head ramps. Let us stand together for nature and wildlife protection in our town.
