My name is Channing Bergenson, and I am a student in Warren County, Kentucky. I am calling for the removal of GoGuardian from our school systems. As a student, I find that GoGuardian invades my privacy and blocks access to numerous websites that are crucial for my education. In an era where online learning has become a cornerstone of education, it is imperative that students have access to the full range of educational resources available on the internet. 

GoGuardian is a tool used by schools to monitor students' online activity. While its purpose is to protect students, it often does more harm than good. Many students in Warren County have expressed concerns about the invasiveness of GoGuardian. It not only tracks our online activity but can also be used by teachers to view our computer screens and even what we do outside of school hours. This level of surveillance is not only unnecessary, but also violates our basic right to privacy.

Moreover, GoGuardian restricts access to numerous websites and resources that greatly contribute to our learning. Websites that offer educational videos, interactive learning experiences, or even scientific journals can be blocked, causing frustration and hindering our ability to engage with our course materials fully. With these restrictions, it is challenging to complete assignments, conduct research, or expand our knowledge outside the school curriculum.

Statistics have shown that over-surveillance in educational environments can lead to increased stress and anxiety among students. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has argued that such practices can create a hostile environment and damage the trust that should exist between students and educators. In addition, the presence of constant monitoring can discourage students from exploring educational content freely and without fear.

Our goal is to have Warren County Public Schools reevaluate the use of GoGuardian and consider transitioning to less invasive and more educational-friendly monitoring systems. We need technology that supports our education, not technology that limits it.
