Remove GoGuardian from schools

The Issue

Feeling like you're under constant surveillance is incredibly stressful and demoralizing, especially for students who are trying to focus on their studies. As students, we deserve a certain degree of privacy, and GoGuardian violates that by allowing teachers to monitor our every move online. It's intrusive, and it breeds a culture of suspicion and distrust. What makes it worse is that constant monitoring doesn't actually help students learn; instead, it pushes them to find ways to bypass the system, a distraction from their schoolwork.

Many of us have completed our assignments but are still monitored when we try to relax with a game or browse online. This ends up wasting time and encourages students to find ways around the system—not to mention that it's a violation of our privacy. Teachers and staff upset over students playing games have a powerful tool at their disposal with GoGuardian, but this often leads to misuse. Instead of fostering an atmosphere where students can balance work and play, we are subjected to unnecessary control.

Installing software like GoGuardian keeps students on edge, and this isn't the environment that best supports our learning and growth. Allowing certain games and responsible browsing after work is complete promotes a balance that is essential for our well-being and mental health. Eliminating these possibilities results in a worse overall performance and a less engaging educational experience.

Other solutions exist that can better protect student privacy while ensuring an effective learning environment. For instance, using trust-based systems that encourage students to focus on their education and spend their breaks freely and responsibly can be far more effective than constant surveillance.

This technology leaves room for potential misuse by teachers for personal advantage, further aggravating an already stressful system. We need to question whether maintaining these monitoring systems is truly in the best interest of students' education and mental health.

It's time to take action and demand the removal of GoGuardian from our schools. By signing this petition, you stand for the rights and privacy of students, and support a better, balanced, and more trusting educational environment. Please sign and support this critical change for all students affected by intrusive monitoring.
