REMOVE GIANNI INFANTINO: Football Belongs to the World — Not Private Investors

We, football supporters from around the world, call upon FIFA’s 211 Member Associations to withdraw their support for Gianni Infantino and demand new leadership of FIFA.

Football does not belong to FIFA.

It does not belong to its President.

And the World Cup is not an asset to be sold.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is pursuing proposals to establish FIFA Forward Enterprise, a new commercial entity encompassing FIFA’s commercial and event activities, with a minority ownership interest potentially opened to private investors.

For millions of supporters around the world, this crosses a line.

UEFA and all 55 of its member associations have now unanimously rejected the proposal and announced that they will not participate in FIFA competitions if it proceeds.

Senior figures inside FIFA have also raised serious concerns. Carlos Cordeiro, a senior adviser to the FIFA President, has resigned amid the dispute, while FIFA’s own leadership has faced criticism over the way the proposal has been developed.

FIFA says the plan would generate enormous additional funding for football development and that FIFA would retain control of the organisation and its competitions.

We acknowledge that investment in grassroots football around the world is important.

But there is a fundamental difference between generating commercial revenue from football and allowing outside investors to acquire an ownership interest in the commercial vehicle containing some of football’s greatest competitions.

The FIFA World Cup was built over generations.

It was built by players.

By national teams.

By clubs.

By volunteers.

And above all, by billions of supporters around the world.

No FIFA President should be able to fundamentally alter the ownership and commercial structure surrounding the world’s game without overwhelming support from the football community.

This controversy is also about something bigger than one proposed transaction.

It is about who FIFA exists to serve.

Gianni Infantino has announced that he intends to seek another term as FIFA President in 2027.

We believe world football now needs new leadership.

OUR DEMAND:

We call upon each of FIFA’s 211 national Member Associations to:

1. Reject any proposal to transfer an ownership interest in the FIFA World Cup or other FIFA competitions to private investors.

2. Withdraw political and electoral support for Gianni Infantino as FIFA President.

3. Support the appointment or election of new FIFA leadership committed to transparent, democratic and supporter-focused governance.

4. Demand that decisions fundamentally affecting the future ownership, governance or commercial structure of world football are subject to proper consultation and scrutiny.

This petition is not against FIFA.

It is not against football development.

It is a demand that FIFA remembers what it is supposed to be:

the custodian of the world’s game — not its owner.

 

There are 211 FIFA Member Associations.

They ultimately have a voice in who leads FIFA and what direction the organisation takes.

We are asking them to use it.

Supporters may come from different clubs, countries and continents, but on this issue we can speak with one voice:

THE WORLD CUP IS NOT FOR SALE.

FOOTBALL BELONGS TO EVERYONE.

IT IS TIME FOR NEW LEADERSHIP AT FIFA.
