Remove GFWL from ALL Games! Revive, Restore, Re-Release Classic Games!
The Issue
These Games do not deserve to be in a perpetual Digital Hell.
(*Games that have been abandoned by the companies that created them)
This petition was originally only for fable 3 and its DLC's, the game has some issues, much like all the previous games did, these can mostly be overlooked because they are minor and were there when the game was released... since the inception of this petition i have considered how many other games suffer from the same and similar issues as fable 3, so what should i do but expand the petition to include these games as well even though not all of the games have issues with GFWL... i care for many of these games beyond what other people seem to, in that i care what happens to these games, how they are left to die in digital hell, how the companies do not bother to update them and make more money like you would think they might do since the games could be worth just as much to the younger generations as the old ones who have spent 30 years plus playing games and know what good games have lost since.
there is something vitally wrong with the digital game industry today that can only be seen by playing both newer and older games, the industry has lost its heart and soul to greed and backhanded business practices... why, because people continually allow these companies to do keep sliding into worse and worse practices, taking more and more and giving less and less ending up basically stealing peoples money and for what? a pittance that is what... trying to squeeze every last penny out of you so they can sell you the latest shiniest game that is not worth the money you have shelled out.
let us show you what you are missing with most of these games and more importantly why these companies should not be allowed to continue these deceitful and grotesque practices, these companies should not be allowed custody of these games that are worth far more to those who grew up playing them than to the companies that made them or these same companies would have taken better care of the games and seen them for there true worth.
There is a major issue between customers, clients, and the companies that produce these games when people cannot play parts of the game that they paid for... i don't know about anyone else but i find this intolerable and it should be a source of extreme shame to any triple A game company let alone any indie or new game companies.
Concerning GFWL, and responsibilities:
GFWL issues are nothing new, the platform from the beginning had problems... but instead of fixing the issues Microsoft decided to just dump GFWL and let xLive take over all responsibility for the platform and all the games that have become almost completely unplayable (in a few cases completely unplayable) and further causing issues expansively by not fixing their own games let alone making available a way for companies to remove GFWL from their games that were once dependent on the now defunct sales platform.
Instead Microsoft chooses to do, Nothing, not a damned thing...
A few companies decided to fix their games and re-release their games on steam, GOG.com, Amazon.com, and possibly other sales platforms... giving those games the chance to be still fully enjoyable and playable for those who bought the games.
However, most companies have not bothered to remove GFWL at all, instead imitating Microsoft and let the games just die off, never-mind that people still played them... Despite these games still having mods made for them, despite people still wanting to play them, despite younger generations buying them, does this seem right to you that these companies continue to sell games that cannot be played anymore?!... according to sales that seems to be fine with most people, the largest part of steam clients seem to think so judging by sales figures on these games...
These games are still garnering interest obviously, so why do these companies completely ignore the fact that people still want to play these games?, why do they ignore that the games are still a source for continued and viable income despite being old or outdated or needing a few fixes?... the time is worth it to revive these games if greed is the issue at hand and ultimately these companies seem to be after more money, so why not remove GFWL and re-establish a much larger fan-base?, because these companies do not care because greed creates a blindness to what seems to be obvious that is so complete that the companies will never consider doing anything with the games anymore...
Sounds a little bit much for these companies?, sounds a little to much for anyone who would normally think logically about viable money making strategies for their companies?, seem a bit much to ignore something that could make these companies more money than they currently enjoy from the new fail games being release?...
i do not get it either, it certainly seems dishonest and something that the CEO's of these companies should be jailed for considering what little someone can go to jail for these days (having your own house broken into and the thief cutting themselves?!)...
the same thing is being done with some of these Classic Games that are being abandoned by the ton, these games have little to do with GFWL but are suffering from the same lack of care due to blindness induced from greed...
Classic Games, by my definition are those games that have story-lines that instantly and fully draw you in and invest you not only in the game but all of the elements of the game... the base game doesn't matter in the least to it being classic or not (although i consider pixel-junk, new games that are pixel games, games to never be classics) and should include certain elements.
These elements include:
- 1, a strong story-line
- 2, excellent game play
- 3, excellent game play mechanics (movement, look, default and customization)
- decent graphics (for the games time, the original release date)
- RPG elements to become more immersed in the game and completely invested in your character (whether you build that character up or not)
- freedom of movement, your character wont get stuck on objects or items (whether dropped or placed by the dev team), you character can jump/crouch/mantle freely without having to find the 'right' position to activate the movement process, automatically moving up/down/over/etc. objects in general that should be navigable within the game environment at all times.
- exploration should always be fun no matter what base type of game it is, it should be an essential part to all really good games.
things it should have but are not necessary or needed to the base game or the fun of the game and should not be central to the game itself:
- coop, should always be integrated if available at all
- multiplayer, should always be integrated if available at all
- proper modding and proper support for same (modding tools that work and do not prevent you from creating and expanding a game)
- expansions (additions to the game that are purchased but add the equivalent of the same size of game and game play etc.)
- DLC's, these should always work no matter what time or where the game was purchased (digital or bought CD/Disk).
What i am proposing exactly:
Remove GFWL from all games that still use it, fix and re-release these games so that fans who still play the games or want to play the game can do so without suffering for it.
Failing the above, at least allow AOMGS to have a complete (if only temporary) access to the game and everything associated with it (used to build the game and the DLC's) so that we can fix the problem that Microsoft/and other companies have been ignoring and refusing to fix themselves.
Bringing games back from the dead by being granted the full RIGHTS to those games that are worth bringing back after the companies that created them and have abandoned them and left them to rot in a digital hell.
RECALL and REPLACE all CD's/Disks/etc. for all the games purchased for those who want to so and want to play the games the way they should be able to be played, this would also include free updates to everyone who owns a digital copy of the game (no matter where it was purchased).
Recycle, Refresh, Re-Release: fix as many issues with the classic 3D games and re-release them for purchase via Steam and Amazon... at first this will only be for PC's, then Consoles, then Linux, and finally Mac.
(yes mac will be done last, yes this is on purpose, yes i hate Macs, yes life can be a bitch, yes there are very good reasons for this as well beyond me hating Macs and associated)
For all of the people who love the these games and their storylines and have basically WASTED THEIR MONEY, for all of those who might have been interested in the games if they still worked properly with steam and other sales platforms... if you agree with any of this then please sign the petition.
These Companies MUST (specially triple A companies) be made to be accountable for their actions, They need to understand that they have a responsibility to their clientele that by the games they make, and in this case basically stealing money from customers without bothering to even try to do something to fix and not let the games die out.
EXPANDING THE SCOPE OF THIS PETITION!

Please Consider Donating via the Companies Patreon:
please do not donate more than 10 bucks per month, anything more seems to me to be a bit ridiculous...
with enough financial support we can speed the process of the petition a bit more by maybe doing some advertising, it kinda goes against my grain but for this to succeed we need to be able to get the word out to as many people as possible... also it will make things smoother if we can purchase the rights to most of these games and franchises, some however are true abandonware and i have no idea who might currently owns the rights to them (example: Timshift).
