I have always been concerned about the substances we ingest without our consent, especially when it comes to my family's health. Living in Bartlett, TN, I have recently discovered that many other residents would like added fluoride in our water supply to be removed. To me and many fellow citizens, this is not just an issue of dental health but a significant matter of medical freedom that deserves immediate attention. As a parent, I am particularly worried about the potential health consequences that fluoride exposure can have on children and adults alike. 

Fluoride is widely known for its use in dental care; however, its inclusion in our public water supply is controversial. Numerous studies suggest that fluoride can act as a neurotoxin, especially affecting young children whose brains are still developing. A study published in The Lancet Neurology journal classified fluoride as a developmental neurotoxicant based on data collected from epidemiological studies. Additionally, a Harvard University study found that high fluoride exposure is linked to lower IQ levels in children.

Beyond scientific studies, it is essential to recognize that adding fluoride to our water supply is a form of forced medical intervention without the consent of the individuals consuming it. For families like mine, who make informed choices about their health, this poses a challenge and raises important ethical questions.

Cities such as Oakland TN, Utah, Florida , successfully voted to keep their water fluoride-free. We believe that Bartlett, TN, should follow suit by evaluating the current policies regarding water fluoridation.
