We first became aware of  Flock cameras when we saw concerning news reports about how they're owned by a private corporation and how they can very easily be abused. These cameras use AI to identify people by their gait and have been involved in high-profile cases. Even more concerning were incidents where police officers were caught using this technology improperly, including stalking individuals like their ex-partners.

          One such case happened here in North Carolina in Mooresville County.  Where a police officer stalked her boyfriend's ex-wife.

          In Jefferson, GA, A small-town police chief tracked his ex-girlfriend and her teenage daughter roughly 600 times (searching her vehicle 164 times and her new partner's vehicle 64 times) before being fired and criminally accused.

          Five separate police officers from Albany were arrested and fired within a single month after internal audits and Flock’s new audit tools flagged massive personal data misuse.

          Now, these Flock cameras have made their way to Knightdale High School, installed without a way for students, parents, or staff to opt out. Setting up these intrusive cameras at the only two school entrances means there is no escaping having our traffic patterns and license plates viewed and potentially stored by a corporation.

          There are massive ethical concerns around Flock. The AI capabilities of these cameras add another layer of invasion of privacy beyond tracking vehicle movements.

          As students of Knightdale High School, we are concerned about the privacy of our classmates and every staff member and educator who helps us grow and prepares us for our futures. Sign this petition to demand the removal of Flock cameras from Knightdale High School.
