You built this to 2,585 signatures, nearly 190 in the past week. Here's what's happened since our last update — and why August 17 matters more, not less:

1) It's not a warning anymore — NC officers are being criminally charged. In eight days this summer, two North Carolina police officers were charged with using Flock cameras to stalk. In one of those departments, the chief says ten more officers are under investigation for personal misuse. 2) The Sheriff's office admits its own audit is "mislabeled." The one safeguard supporters point to is the search log — "every search is recorded." But our own Sheriff's office told WECT its Flock "traffic infraction" codes were mislabeled. If the labels can be wrong, reading the labels isn't oversight. 3) The FBI and a Houston police department are searching our region's cameras — and our own Sheriff searches the beach towns while hiding who searches his. Five NC agencies released the records New Hanover won't. They show nearly 3.9 million searches in three months, about 90% from out of state, the FBI in the top ten. And the New Hanover Sheriff's Office — which blacks out every agency that searches its own network — searched tiny Kure Beach's four cameras 5,482 times. → https://deflockilm.org/who-is-searching-north-carolina-flock/
