Stalemate

It is with a heavy heart that I share the Spring Lake Township Board did not budge on the fact they signed a very expensive waste hauler contract without further consulting with its residents.  We submitted 499 signatures asking the Board to remove the exclusivity language from both the waste hauler agreement and waste hauler ordinance.  The township attorney stated it would be too costly to terminate the contract.  Thus, reversing the waste hauler ordinance that would open them up for a law suit as well from the selected exclusive waste hauler.  So we have to use the waste hauler they assigned us to even though at the June 6, 2022 meeting the residents stated they did not want a single waste hauler in our community.  

Legally they cannot force us the resident to use the single waste hauler but what they did is limit number of waste haulers that can do business in our township.  By changing the waste hauler ordinance, the township no longer offer business licenses except to the waste hauler they contracted. The Board made this change without letting current waste haulers or the resident know they were moving in this direction. Nor was there a RFP done before making this change. Our local waste haulers lost business and now our money goes out of state.  Very sad.  

We are open to any ideas any other community or attorney may have to offer to exit without penalty or at least provide choice again.
