Remove escort policy for Westover High bathrooms

Remove escort policy for Westover High bathrooms
The Issue
As a student at Westover High School, I've personally faced challenges attending to my basic human needs. Due to the current policy requiring an "escort" to use the bathroom during class time, I've experienced significant anxiety, making it difficult to use the restroom comfortably, especially during crowded transitional periods. Holding it in is not just uncomfortable; it's unhealthy and interferes with my ability to focus and learn.
This petition aims to address and change the policy that restricts access to bathrooms outside of transitional times. The "escort" policy is unreliable and impractical. Many students, including myself, find it emotionally and physically taxing to wait indefinitely to use the restroom, only to face overcrowded facilities.
Studies highlight the adverse effects of prolonged bladder retention on physical health, contributing to risks such as urinary tract infections and bladder dysfunction. It's essential for students, educators, and administrators to prioritize health and basic human rights over stringent bathroom policies.
There is a clear need for more flexible bathroom access for students throughout the school day. Solutions include allowing students to use the restroom during class without needing an escort or enhancing supervision to manage bathroom access more effectively.
This issue extends beyond personal discomfort; it is a question of well-being and dignity. We urge school officials and policymakers to reevaluate this policy and implement changes that respect student rights and promote a healthier, more supportive learning environment.
I ask for your support to change this policy for the betterment of Westover High's student body. Please sign this petition to grant students the fundamental right to use the bathroom when needed.
