Remove emergency alert siren in HO-HO -KUS, NJ
The Issue
Every day in Ridgewood, NJ, our lives are interrupted by the blaring noise of the emergency alert siren. While these sirens were originally installed to alert residents of imminent danger, the constant noise pollution has become more of a daily disturbance than a safeguard.
Having lived in Ridgewood for many years, I've witnessed firsthand how these sirens disrupt the peace and tranquility of our community. The siren's sound echoes through our homes, startling our young children and causing them distress. Our children, our most vulnerable members, are particularly frightened by the sudden, piercing noise, making our homes feel less like safe havens and more like tumultuous zones. It's clear to me that this situation cannot continue for the wellbeing of our families.
The need for continual use of these loud alerts should be reconsidered in this era of advanced communication technology. We now have multiple ways to receive urgent alerts – via smartphones, televisions, and radios – which are often more efficient and effective at conveying emergency information without causing undue distress.
Indeed, an emergency alert system is vital, but it should not come at the expense of our community's quality of life. By looking into alternative solutions like more targeted alerts, we can ensure that the residents of Ridgewood are notified without the accompanying distress of the current system.
I urge the local government and relevant authorities to evaluate the necessity of the current siren system and explore other emergency alert options that respect the tranquility of our neighborhoods while keeping us informed and safe. Let's make Ridgewood a more peaceful place to live for all its residents by advocating for the removal or adaptation of these sirens.
Please sign this petition to help us bring back the peace and serenity to our cherished community.
