The stated mission of Tesla is to help transition the world away from greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels to sustainable energy, which is essential for avoiding the worst effects of global climate change. In his time as CEO, Elon Musk has played a notable role in getting Tesla to where it is today. However, Musk’s current endeavors focus more on culture wars and the control of social media than on Tesla’s environmental mission. Musk has inserted himself into American politics in a way that damages the Tesla brand by associating the company with his politics. Musk has become toxically divisive. His new persona and public actions discourage customers and investors from continuing their association with the Tesla brand. Tesla's mission is represented in Musk’s overt, unavoidable politics. Tesla is meant for everyone. It is time for a new CEO that holds universal humanistic values.
