Remove Elizabeth Cantwell as President of Washington State University
The Issue
Washington State University deserves better leadership. Under President Elizabeth Cantwell, students are facing rising tuition, declining enrollment, a struggling football program, and now proposed changes that threaten one of WSU’s biggest traditions: Greek life.
Enough is enough.
Tuition keeps increasing. Students are paying more to attend WSU, yet it’s becoming harder to see where that money is going or how these increases are improving the student experience.
Enrollment is declining. WSU continues to lose students, raising serious concerns about the university’s future and its ability to attract incoming classes.
WSU football is struggling. Football is a major part of the WSU experience, and students and alumni deserve leadership with a clear plan to rebuild the program.
Now, Greek life is being targeted. On October 28, 2026, WSU announced plans to eliminate fall fraternity and sorority recruitment for incoming freshmen beginning in 2027.
Greek life has been part of WSU for generations. It provides students with friendships, leadership opportunities, community service, and a sense of belonging.
WSU’s announcement suggests that delaying recruitment will give students more time to “be a Coug first.”
Students in Greek life are Cougs.
Joining a fraternity or sorority doesn’t make someone any less of a WSU student. For thousands of students, Greek life is what helped them find their place at WSU in the first place.
Student safety and accountability matter, but those concerns should be addressed directly rather than restricting recruitment for everyone.
At a time when enrollment is declining, WSU should be giving students more reasons to attend, not taking away opportunities that make the school appealing.
We are calling on the WSU Board of Regents to:
1. Remove Elizabeth Cantwell as president of Washington State University.
2. Reverse the proposed restrictions on fall Greek recruitment.
3. Provide greater transparency regarding tuition increases and declining enrollment.
4. Establish a clear plan to improve the university’s future, including its athletics programs.
WSU students deserve a voice in decisions that directly affect their college experience.
We’re paying more, enrollment is falling, and now the administration wants to change traditions that have been part of WSU for decades.
It’s time for a change in leadership.
