UPDATE AT BOTTOM 

Dustin Waycaster and Chris Melton, acting as the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief of Lake Lure, North Carolina, have demonstrated severe negligence and a disappointing failure to protect the community. The recent disaster left many stranded, in need of emergency help. Regrettably, Waycaster and Melton neglected these calls for assistance and instead exhibited threatening behavior towards volunteer pilots who stepped up to provide the needed aid. These pilots volunteered their own time and equipment to come to the aid of those left in Waycaster and Melton's wake. 

Waycaster and Melton's actions not only fail to uphold the values of the fire and rescue services but also pose a significant risk to the community. Their actions during this crisis have shown a lack of respect for those they were sworn to protect, demonstrating that they are unfit to continue serving in their current roles. 

The residents of Lake Lure deserve competent and compassionate leadership in times of disaster. We must hold those in power accountable for their actions and demand better for our community. We, the community of Lake Lure, NC demand that Dustin Waycaster and Chris Melton be removed from their roles as Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief respectively. Update 

After reading the interview between Queen City News chief investigator Jody Barr and Town Manger Olivia Stewman in regards to Assistant Fire Chief Chris Melton. Town Manager Stewman shows lack of empathy and compassion towards the victims and members of the community. Lying during the interview about FAA restrictions and upholding the actions of assistant fire chief Chris Melton. We the people demand Olivia Stewman be terminated from her position as Lake Lure Town Manager.
