The Issue
In 2016, while many Americans saw Donald Trump's rise to the presidency as a chance for change, the reality has been far from the hopeful promises of a better America. As someone who has always believed in integrity and leadership that serves the people, the actions and behaviors of President Trump have been deeply concerning to me, as well as to millions of citizens who expected a more dignified administration.
Under Trump’s leadership, division in our nation has widened. The rhetoric from the Oval Office often fosters hate and undermines the unity that our country desperately needs. His administration's numerous policies and executive actions, which have often appeared self-serving, rather than in service to the American people, are unprecedented and unacceptable. Whether it's the downplaying of crucial public health guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic, environmental deregulations threatening our planet's future, or failing to condemn groups that spread hate, the negative impact is undeniable.
According to a report by FactCheck.org, since President Trump assumed office, the number of misleading claims made by him has surpassed 30,000. This erosion of truth not only affects public trust but threatens the democracy upon which this nation was founded. The Washington Post’s compilation of these claims underscores the gravity of having a leader who persistently provides false information.
Accountability must be restored. Our President should be someone who respects facts, listens to experts, and genuinely cares about the welfare of every citizen, not just a select few. In addition, as stated in a study by the Pew Research Center, public trust in government has drastically decreased during Trump's presidency, an alarming trend that must be reversed.
