Remove Delta Tau Delta from Iowa State Campus
The Issue
Four reported sexual assaults from one frat in one year. Let that sink in. One assault is one too many, and four is beyond unacceptable. As members of the Iowa State community, our hearts break for the victims who have had to endure unimaginable pain and trauma at the hands of individuals within the Delta Tau Delta fraternity. Enough is enough; it’s time we make our campus a safer place for everyone.
Delta Tau Delta's presence on our campus undermines the safety and well-being of all students, particularly women, and it sends a horrifying message that such actions are tolerated and can continue without serious repercussions. This fraternity, in its current state, poses a real threat to the security and peace that all students deserve while pursuing their education.
Statistics consistently show that sexual assault is a rampant issue on college campuses across America, with one in five women and one in sixteen men experiencing such an assault during their time in college, according to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. This isn’t just a statistic here at Iowa State; these are our friends, classmates, and loved ones who walk among us every day, feeling vulnerable and unsafe.
The university has a responsibility to protect its students and foster an environment where learning can occur free from fear and violence. By allowing Delta Tau Delta to remain active on our campus after these incidents, Iowa State University is failing in its duty to safeguard its student body. We cannot stand by and allow this pattern of behavior to persist.
We urge Iowa State University to immediately disband Delta Tau Delta and permanently remove them from campus. This is a crucial step in sending a clear message that sexual assault will not be tolerated and that the safety of students is the university's top priority. Furthermore, we demand a comprehensive review of the fraternity and sorority system at Iowa State with the aim of implementing stricter oversight and accountability measures.
Join us in demanding justice for the survivors and ensuring that future students can experience campus life in an environment that is respectful and safe for everyone. Sign this petition today and be a part of the change that Iowa State desperately needs.
