The Issue

Every year, like clockwork, there's this one day that truly unsettles me. The day we lose an hour to daylight savings time throws me off completely. I find it disrupts my sleep pattern, reduces my productivity, and leaves me feeling groggy and unbalanced for days afterward. I know I'm not alone in this struggle.

Daylight saving time (DST) has been a long-debated tradition in many parts of the world, initially implemented during the World Wars to conserve energy. However, numerous studies have shown that the anticipated benefits of energy savings are minimal at best. For instance, research by the National Bureau of Economic Research found that DST only reduces energy usage by around 0.5 to 1%, which is negligible in today's energy landscape.

Furthermore, DST has been linked to several health issues. According to studies conducted by the American Journal of Cardiology, the transition into DST has been associated with an increase in cardiovascular incidents such as heart attacks. There's also a marked increase in workplace accidents and road incidents in the days following the clock change, as people struggle to adjust to the lost hour of sleep.

Given these points, it's time for a change. Multiple states and countries are considering abolishing DST or have already done so. For example, the European Union voted to end the biannual clock changes, set to take effect in the near future. Hawaii and most of Arizona have also opted out of observing DST, proving that it's not a mandatory system by any means.

I urge our lawmakers and leaders to take these facts into account and make a decision that prioritizes the well-being of citizens over an outdated practice. By removing daylight savings time, we can ensure a more stable, healthy, and predictable schedule year-round.

Please join me in signing this petition to send a message to our lawmakers: it's time to align our clocks with the evidence and eliminate daylight savings time once and for all. Sign now to make a difference!
