The Issue

On June 1st, my life changed forever when two violent dogs killed my beloved cat. What was even more alarming was witnessing these same dogs drag around and seemingly attack a fully grown man. These dogs are not just a threat to our pets but are also a severe danger to humans, especially small children. We are located near Cotter, Winona Senior High School, and St. Matthew’s where there are many children walking to school. Our community is in urgent need of protection from such dangerous animals.

I am deeply concerned for the safety of our community members, and share the sorrow and fear of neighbors who have had similar encounters. We should not have to live in fear every time we step outside our homes or walk through our own neighborhood.

Statistics show that dangerous dog attacks are notoriously underreported, but they account for over 4.5 million incidents each year in the United States. The American Veterinary Medical Association emphasizes the need for prompt intervention in ensuring community safety regarding aggressive animal behavior.

We urge our local authorities to take immediate action by removing these dangerous dogs from our neighborhood. Implementing stricter regulations on dog ownership and containment measures would be a proactive means to prevent further injuries or tragically, another fatality.

Residents of Winona deserve to feel safe in their surroundings. The presence of aggressive dogs should not dictate our daily activities or peace of mind. Together, we can advocate for a safer environment for ourselves, our children, and our pets.

Please join me in calling for the protection of our community by signing this petition. Your support is crucial in demonstrating to local decision-makers that we need change, and that change starts with ensuring our community is free from dangerous threats. Sign today to make a difference for a safer tomorrow.
