It has come to light that Officer Mascorro has been performing administrative duties. He has been in the squad room. He has been involved in day to day duties of the Thermopolis Police Dept. This involvement makes the statement that the Town of Thermopolis released stating he was on “administrative leave” misleading & inaccurate. The leaders knew that the general perception was that he WAS NOT working, in any capacity, yet they chose to operate under the radar & not issue a follow up statement to clarify that information. The general public has been told one thing, while the powers that be continue to do something totally different. 

The press release regarding the recent drug bust was written by the Thermopolis Police Dept & completely overlooked the other officers who were key to the drug bust. That release was written to show a specific officer in a positive light & was presented to the newspaper to be printed. The staged picture was taken after the suspect’s truck was already loaded on a trailer & was presented to the newspaper staff to take by the remaining officers on the scene. It was setup by those with the power to dictate the situation & release the information they wanted. Sounds like a well orchestrated publicity stunt to me. 

We had been encouraging people who were fearful about filing complaints in the past to do it now, but we were doing so based on the false information that had been given regarding his leave status. We keep asking for transparency from our leaders, yet we keep finding more things that have been half truths or details that have been left out.
