We presented at the town council meeting on November 7 & provided some information to the council members, regarding our stance. There were multiple comments during the public comment portion of the meeting, some of those in support of Officer Mascorro. While we understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinions, there also needs to be an understanding of the facts. 
Those in support of Officer Mascorro & his actions that day seem to be under the impression that he was in hot pursuit of a suspect on drug related charges. Based on the evidence from DCI & Special Prosecutor Erramouspe, that IS NOT true. The incident started because Officer Mascorro was attempting to arrest the suspect on an interference charge, stemming from incorrect information that the suspect had provided hours earlier. This offense is a misdemeanor and the officer had been advised NOT to go arrest the man, which he blatantly disregarded. There was no warrant. There was no hot pursuit & it was hours after the original offense. He may have been cleared of the shooting on a technicality, but that doesn’t change the fact that he broke the law by ILLEGALLY entering the home. His unlawful actions caused the shooting. While drugs were found in the home by investigators, that was not the reason for Officer Mascorro showing up on this man’s doorstep. 
His actions that day escalated a simple misdemeanor charge into an officer involved shooting & a life being lost. 
The fact that Officer Mascorro has been instrumental in many drug busts in the past shouldn’t mean that he is exempt from the laws now & in the future. Law enforcement officers take an oath to uphold the laws, not break them, & that shouldn’t be forgotten or overlooked. 

We are still pushing for answers from our leaders and accountability for those at fault. Please continue to spread the word & encourage people to file formal complaints if they have had a negative experience.
