Remove Coach Robert “Chip” Fuller from Yorba Linda High School Women’s Soccer Program
Remove Coach Robert “Chip” Fuller from Yorba Linda High School Women’s Soccer Program
The Issue
We are genuinely concerned about the impact of Robert Fuller coaching style has on the girls as well as the future of the YLHS Women’s Soccer program under his leadership. There have been many voices over the 2 years Fuller has been here, expressing the same concerns but those have been ignored.
We are encouraging concerned parents, family members, current students, former students and community members in the YLHS community to sign in support of removing Robert “Chip” Fuller from the Yorba Linda High School Women’s Soccer Program.
Reasons for removing Coach Fuller:
- Fuller has targeted players using bully-like behavior including mind games, yelling, intimidation and threats, passive-aggressive behavior, singled out players and made “examples of” them during practices, games, team events, and yells in girls faces during practice and games.
Fuller has a Safe Word, “Anchor” that the girls are intended to use when he cannot control his anger and inappropriate behavior when he is alone with them. Fuller does not care about how his actions emotionally and mentally affect the girls and admits to not having self-control and plans to continue to behave this way. - More than one player has suffered mental issues/depression due to Fuller’s tactics. Fuller has abused power and young self-esteem is being damaged as a result. Any time a parent voices concern, and Fuller is advised of the complaint, he feels threatened and takes it out directly on the student athlete of the parent who has complained.
- Per the Player Code of Conduct Fuller created, the student athletes are expected to treat each other with respect and dignity. Fuller is inconsistent with how he treats players, demeaning those he feels are useless by segregating them at practice and games, and ignoring them as part of the team by giving up on coaching them, but still continuing to bully and torment them with personal attacks.
- Players have quit the program due to his tactics and even more potential players will transfer out to different programs or worse just not play soccer again because of how he has made them feel and his reputation.
- Fuller has remained as a coach at Yorba Linda High School, despite consistent complaints by parents and players. Fuller’s abusive behavior is known by the Athletic Director, Principal, and District Superintendent and nothing has been done.
Fuller’s behavior has had the effect of a classic abuse situation – players are afraid to tell for fear of additional punishment or worse treatment, and parents who do find out hesitate to speak up because previous complaints have gone nowhere and they do not want to make the situation worse for their daughter and/or their siblings.
- Please sign and promote others to sign in support of the removal of Coach Robert “Chip” Fuller. Anyone can sign this petition to show support for the program. Thank you!
