BBC newsreader Clive Myrie publicly called a pro-Palestine student a “f*cking idiot” and a “lunatic”, after being challenged over his coverage of the war in Gaza while speaking at an event introducing him as the new chancellor for the University of the Arts London.

Is this really the behaviour of a role model for students to emulate? Surely students deserve better!

There is no place for such abhorrent behavior in academia, especially from figures of authority. As students of the University of the Arts London (UAL), we must ensure our community is one of respect, safety and support.

Being in a position of authority, it is crucial for Mr. Myrie to uphold the values that our institution stands by, but instead, he has failed to demonstrate basic decency toward our student body.

According to a recent Unison report, the prevalence of such unacceptable behavior by individuals in authority can significantly impact the well-being of students and discourage healthy learning environments. We must not normalise this kind of behaviour.

By signing this petition, let's urge the board of UAL to review Clive Myrie's position as Chancellor and implement a faithful representation of our university values. Sign this petition to demand his removal and the appointment of a Chancellor who respects and supports all students.
