Remove Clergy Exemption from Idaho Mandated Reporting Laws

The Issue

It’s time to make a change for our children!  According to Idaho Health and Welfare, religious clergy are EXEMPT from the requirement to report child abuse (source: https://healthandwelfare.idaho.gov/services-programs/children-families/child-and-family-services-and-foster-care/reporting-neglect).

Clergy are defined in Idaho as any functionary of a religious organization (source:  https://isc.idaho.gov/ire505). We are NOT trying to absolve all aspects of clergy-penitent privilege, only in the case of child abuse. Clergy NEED to be required  to report child abuse to prevent the suffering of children at all costs. This is to help our religious leaders, as well as our children! By requiring clergy to report child abuse, they are free of attempting to resolve the issue on their own. Don’t let a child suffer for one more day. Sign to raise awareness to our Governor Brad Little!
