For many families and students in Waterford, Michigan, the introduction of Chromebooks in our schools has been less of a blessing and more of a burden. In fact, a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics suggests that children between the ages of 5 to 18 years should not exceed two hours of recreational screen time per day. We propose a return to more traditional teaching methods while incorporating digital tools in a balanced manner that does not rely on the usage of daily computer programs as part of the curriculum. By investing in diverse educational resources, having a computer skills class, and ensuring robust support systems for all students and teachers, Waterford School District can enhance learning experiences and outcomes without resorting to an overreliance on technology.
