The Issue

Living in Forks, Washington, we pride ourselves on being a tight-knit community where our residents can feel safe and secure. Yet, the current position of Brian Weekes on the Forks City Planning Commission raises significant concerns about the safety and integrity of our community. Brian Weekes carries with him a cloud of credible allegations spanning decades, which compromises the trust we place in our local officials. These well-documented allegations of predatory behavior cannot and should not be ignored.

Not only has the disturbing history of Mr. Weekes resulted in ongoing distress among community members, but it has also financially impacted our local institutions. Recently, a civil suit filed against the Quillayute Valley School District (QVSD) regarding his behavior was lost, leaving the district to shoulder nearly a million dollars in legal costs. This financial burden detracts from essential resources and educational funding, directly affecting the students and families of our community.

Allowing Brian Weekes to remain in a position of authority within our city puts our community at further risk, both from a safety and financial standpoint. It is inappropriate and simply unacceptable for someone with a record such as his to have any influence over local planning decisions. His presence on the commission not only undermines the authority and credibility of the Commission but could also set a dangerous precedent about how we handle serious allegations against officials in Forks.

Our goal with this petition is straightforward: we call upon the Forks City government to immediately remove Brian Weekes from his position on the Planning Commission. Doing so will demonstrate our commitment to protecting our community and maintaining the integrity of our local government. We urge local leaders and stakeholders to prioritize the safety and well-being of all Forks residents by ensuring that our city officials are individuals of impeccable character and trustworthiness.

Please sign this petition to demand accountability and action. Together, we can make Forks a safer, more trustworthy place for everyone.

Forks Constituents, Thank you for reaching out to me directly and sharing the petition regarding the Forks City Planning Commission. I want to provide an immediate update to our community on this matter. On the day this petition was initiated, Brian Weekes formally submitted his resignation from his position as a Forks City Planning Commissioner. As a result, he is no longer serving on the commission, and the seat is currently vacant. Moving forward, I am confident that the city will follow established procedures to fill this vacancy with a representative dedicated to serving our community with integrity. To ensure our local government truly reflects our community's values, we need passionate residents to step up. I highly encourage each constituent who signed this petition to consider their own candidacy for this vacancy or other civic roles. Your voice matters, and active participation is the best way to shape the future of Forks. Thank you again for your civic engagement. Sincerely, Corey Pearson Forks City Council Member | Position No. 5
