Brett Raymo and Sommer Polland have repeatedly failed the community and the animals within the Monroe County Animal Shelter. Brett Raymo is the Shelter Director who oversees everything that happens within the shelter. Sommer Polland is the Kennel Master, a step down from Shelter Director. Together they have neglected to get proper vetting to the animals despite funds that have been donated or raised, they put animals down without taking them to the Euthanasia Board to vote if they should be put down or not, they neglect to care for the animals in the facility by only feeding once a day, filling up the animals’ water dishes with steaming hot water, not taking any animal outside of their kennel for a potty break or fresh air, relying on the volunteers to do their jobs for them, leaving injured/sick animals to lay in their kennel past their stray hold even though the stray hold does not apply to sick/injured animals while they plan to euthanize them their last day of hold, there are no posts of the adoptable animals being made unless it is posted by the volunteers, they do not network or build relationships with rescues in order to get the animals out of the shelter, etc. Brett Raymo oversees all of the Animal Control Officers and tells them what to do, how to do it, and when to do it while he sits at his desk all day. Raymo has appointed Polland as his right hand girl, and she does what she wants while being protected by Raymo. Both Raymo and Polland are protected by union which makes it very hard for the County to fire them regardless of the several eye witnesses of abuse/neglect, statements from rescues, formal complaints that were never filed, statements from the public, and pictures, videos, and vet records. Within Brett Raymo and Sommer Polland’s care, cats have escaped from the cat room never to be found, dogs have attacked other dogs through fences/kennels, dogs have escaped the shelter facility due to building & fencing flaws which results in attacks to the public and other animals nearby, multiple animals have died horrific deaths by sickness or injury that has gone untreated and they are thrown into the shelter freezers until cremation day like bags of garbage. The shelter is and has been flawed detrimentally and the first step to making the shelter a safe haven for the animals is to remove the people that are causing the pain and suffering. Our tax dollars should not go toward the unjust suffering of innocent animals, and they definitely should not be going toward Raymo and Polland’s paychecks.
