We bring attention to the distressing disregard for our ancestors' final resting place. The presence of an imposing billboard and an abandoned gas station on a graveyard is a disrespectful presence over the sacred grounds where our forebears lie. This graveyard, ironically located beneath major highways I95/I64 is a testament to our shared heritage which is currently lost amidst commercial debris.

The American Planning Association emphasizes that cultural heritage sites deserve respect; disregarding such places can be harmful to community morale and cohesion. Our situation sadly mirrors this. The ancestors buried here represent our historical roots and ignoring this is akin to neglecting our history.

By removing the intrusive structures, we make a significant step toward rectifying this disrespect. Furthermore, erecting a monument will celebrate the lives of those buried there, acknowledging and paying homage to their contributions. Not only will it serve as a symbol of respect among the local community, but it can also play an educational role, reminding travelers on I95/I64 of the history below.
