The Issue

High school halls of fame are meant to honor graduates who reflect the values of a school and inspire the next generation. Cheltenham High School’s Hall of Fame should be no exception.

Benjamin Netanyahu’s presence in Cheltenham’s Hall of Fame sends the wrong message to current students—many of whom have spoken out against his continued recognition.

Netanyahu has been indicted on corruption charges and now faces an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for alleged war crimes in Gaza. These are not credentials that belong in a school hallway.

Students pass his photograph every day. They’re being told, through silence, that this is someone to admire. They understand that honor and notoriety are not the same thing.

We’re calling on the Cheltenham High School Alumni Association and school district officials to remove Benjamin Netanyahu from the Hall of Fame display and adopt a clear policy for reconsidering honorees whose actions directly contradict the school’s values of inclusion, integrity, and public service.

History is complicated. But honoring someone is a choice. Let’s make one we can be proud of.
