The Issue

I'm a student at Parkway Southwest Middle School, and like many of my classmates, I find myself frequently needing to use the bathroom throughout the day. Unfortunately, the current policy of restricting bathroom access through a limited number of passes has become a significant stressor for me and others. As a result of these limitations, I often worry about whether I'll be able to go when I truly need to, especially given that I drink a lot of water to stay healthy and hydrated.

This situation is not just about comfort; it's about health and well-being. Denying students the ability to use the restroom when they need to can lead to dehydration, urinary tract infections, and a host of other health issues. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, children should be encouraged to stay hydrated throughout the day, and restricting bathroom access contradicts this important guideline.

Furthermore, the stress and anxiety caused by not knowing if you'll be able to use the restroom is unfair and detrimental to students' focus and learning environment. Water consumption is essential, and natural bodily functions should not be a source of stress for students attending school.

We are asking that Parkway Southwest Middle School reassess and change its current bathroom policy to eliminate pass restrictions, allowing students to responsibly manage their own needs without unnecessary obstacles. Implementing a more flexible approach would show trust in students and ensure their comfort, focus, and overall well-being during school hours.

By signing this petition, you stand with the students of Parkway Southwest Middle School in advocating for a change that addresses our health and educational needs. Let's work together to create a supportive and healthy school environment. Please sign this petition to show your support for unrestricted bathroom access!
