The Issue

My child does not feel heard, seen, or treated fairly under the current cheerleading administration at our school in Montgomery, AL. At Percy Julian High School  The new hierarchy comprising Christi Reese and three newly appointed cheer coaches has unfortunately fostered an environment where our cheerleaders feel disrespected, unsafe, and even afraid to voice their concerns due to potential retaliation.

Every child deserves to participate in activities with fairness and respect. Over the past few months, there have been multiple complaints from students and parents alike, pointing to an excessively authoritative and punitive atmosphere within the cheerleading program. Not only do these conditions hinder the personal and athletic development of our children, but they also violate the basic premise of school sports to provide a nurturing and supportive environment.

Numerous testimonies reveal a pattern of exclusion and bias that has emerged since these new authorities took over. Specific instances, such as unwarranted favoritism and unfair treatment during practice and competitions, have left many feeling marginalized and undervalued. This detrimental culture is compounded by incidents where voicing concerns has led to direct or indirect punishments and social isolation.

The existing administration needs to be revisited, and the authority held by Christi Reese and the new coaches must be reassessed. Our cheerleaders deserve leaders who will champion a culture of inclusion, fairness, and open communication. There is a strong need for a leadership overhaul to restore a positive atmosphere and ensure the well-being of all participants.

We urge the school authorities and relevant bodies in Montgomery, AL to take immediate action to protect our cheerleaders. By reassessing the roles and responsibilities of those in charge, we can cultivate an environment where every cheerleader feels valued and empowered to express themselves without fear. Let us stand together for the fair treatment and safety of our children.

Please sign this petition to call for the removal of the current authority and the implementation of positive changes in our cheerleading program. Your support could make all the difference in ensuring a safe and respectful environment for our cheerleaders.
