Remove Alfredo DeLaRosa as Miami Arts Charter Principal

Remove Alfredo DeLaRosa as Miami Arts Charter Principal
The Issue
We believe that Miami Arts Charter would be better under better leadership. Mr. De La Rosa is only involved in administration once controversies arise. In the eyes of the student body Mr. Diaz (The Current Vice-Principal) is our Principal. We would just like to make it official. Mr. De La Rosa is not able to successfully manage being both Principal AND the Instrumental Music Coordinator. And he has been involved in numerous controversies.
DeLaRosa has
- Mocked a parent who was seeking information on their Childs education following the Costadoni incident. (Jan 2018) View Article
- Hired Scott Manas (At the Homestead Campus) despite him being on probation in 2000 for writing inappropriate notes to students and collecting a lock of a female students hair, a tissue she had used, and photos of her. (Mar 2018) View Article
This begs the question if Mr. De La Rosa isn't vetting his employees, who is? This is the second time a single google search would've saved the school and its community a lot of embarrassment.
- Ignored allegations of sexual harassment, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and pedophilia. A parent emailed him and he responded that [Redacted] was not being racist since he was quoting a song in which the n-word is said. He has continued to protect [Redacted] despite a petition circulating to fire [Redacted] parents complaining, and student testimonials being sent to De La Rosa. (Jun 2020) View Petition. View Student Testimonies
- Hired[Redacted] [Redacted] Despite him being fired from SLAM! for speaking inappropriately to students. (Year hired is unknown)
- According to a parent he used the n-word loudly and publicly. (Unconfirmed as of 6/4)
- Has numerous claims of racism and homophobia from students.
- Unproportionately fund the arts programs. Band is heavily funded and has purchased things like a $1,000 tuner that no students are allowed to utilize.
- Has promised to install a roof for the lunch area. No updates have been given on this since January 2019
We demand accountability. If he is to stay as acting principal we ask that as a bare minimum he background checks his current and prospective employees, to NEVER AGAIN ignore claims of sexual harassment and racism, and removes himself from the arts budget meetings since he has proven he cannot remain unbiased.
