Fellow supporter,
Thank you, for having signed this petition. As we all know, according to the newly put out Parking Regulations by management at MAHE Dubai, AED 350 and AED 300 per semester will be imposed on students who wish to park their vehicles in the Campus and Hostel Parking Spaces, respectively.
As many have pointed out, given that the RTA has opted to keep the Academic City a parking-fee-free zone, a move to charge students to park within the campus is clearly unethical and in many ways atrocious. Needless to say, no part of the student body was consulted or warned before bringing this out. Evidently, students are being used as revenue generation tools.
This is also unprecedented. No campus within the Academic City is seen to be charging their students for such an essential facility. We're in Dubai, where distances to uni can extend to well over 100 kilometers for folks traveling from AD or Al Ain.
The justification given for the fee is also truly ignorant and idiotic - to upgrade the existing CCTVs and lights. Whose pockets are our 40,000 dirhams in fees filling, if we need to literally pay up for the university's facilities and maintenance? Please do not make us feel as though the CCTVs are a luxury. They are an essential safety and hygiene factor for any university campus.
What if we do pay the AED 350? What change will we see? Here are some questions we would like answered!
Will the management finally begin taking responsibility for Hit and Run cases? Will the management ensure total safety and insurance of our cars within the campus? What guarantees or additional services will we avail against the fee? No answers yet.
Sign this petition if you haven't already.
Wish you a merry Christmas and hopefully, a parking fee-free new year.
