Removal of trees at 1306 Northup Rd.

The Issue

To the office of Michael McCollum, 9th Ward Commissioner, Haverford Township:

I live at 1309 Northup Rd. in Drexel Hill, PA.  Within the past year, two trees have fallen from the property at 1306 Northup Rd., which is across the street from my house.  They have fallen as the result of storms.  Each fallen tree has blocked the street causing myself and my neighbors either delays in getting to work or finding other means of transportation. They have also caused damage to power lines. The last tree to fall was the night of July 9, 2025. It almost hit my house, and did cause damage to one of my cars that had to be put in the body shop. Everyone on the street lost electricity.  Currently, there is a dead tree on the 1306 property. When it falls, it will hit my house and again cause damage to power lines.

The tree has been tagged by Haverford Township as "dead", and a certified letter has been sent to the 1306 address. I have a copy of the certified letter, as I needed it to report to my home insurance. The case number is CV-2025-248. The problem is the owners have lived in St. Croix for the last 17 years. Their daughter, her husband and family lived at the 1306 address in their place. However, about a month before the tree fell on July 9th, they were already in the process of moving out, going back periodically to get mail or take trash out.  It has now been almost 2 months since the last tree fell and the dead tree is still there.

For the safety of me, my family and my neighbors who live on Northup Rd., I'm petitioning the township to remove all the trees that line the 1306 Northup Rd. property. I don't want to see anyone get injured or possibly have a fatal accident. I also don't want to have to live in a motel for a year while my house gets fixed. It is unbelievable that my family and I have been living in fear of being in our own house.

My name is Leo Mancuso and I can be reached at 610-931-4222.  I'm hoping something can be done immediately.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Leo Mancuso
