Removal of Mohsin Hussain from the upcoming Keighley Central Ward Elections.

Removal of Mohsin Hussain from the upcoming Keighley Central Ward Elections.
The Issue
In the upcoming election, citizens are entrusted with the significant responsibility to choose leaders who reflect their values and have impeccable integrity. However, there is growing concern surrounding Mohsin Hussain, whose connections to individuals currently under investigation for murder cast a shadow over his suitability for public office.
This association raises ethical and security questions that cannot be overlooked as we move closer to election day. Mohsin Hussain, has direct connections including, his own brother(Majid), who has fled from authorities and is yet to be located. Then there is Rashid Hussain who has now been charged for Murder, an individual that Mohsin Hussain himself calls a ‘good friend’ on a public post, supporting him in a previous local election campaign. Mohsin Hussain is photographed recently with Rashid Hussain in the above picture.
Mohsin Hussain waited a week following Suhail’s murder, before releasing a lacklustre statement which lacked any real substance. In this statement he alarmingly confirmed that he had been in contact with the authorities relating to Suhail’s murder, which shows a clear conflict of interest, considering his direct links to the accused. This has caused further distress to the grieving family.
The integrity of our electoral process, and consequently, our democratic institutions, depends heavily on the transparency and moral standing of those who seek to represent us. When a candidate has links to individuals involved in grave criminal activities, it not only compromises their own integrity but also the trust the public has in the system.
Serious and widely reported concerns have arisen regarding the Councillor’s actions and potential conflicts of interest in connection with matters of significant public importance. These concerns have materially affected public confidence in his ability to discharge his duties with integrity, impartiality, and in accordance with the Nolan Principles of Public Life.
Given the gravity of these concerns, we respectfully demand:
1. The prompt appointment of an independent investigator with no prior association with the Council.
2. Publication of clear terms of reference for the investigation.
3. A temporary suspension from committee roles and representative duties pending the outcome, where legally permissible.
4. Full public disclosure of findings, subject only to lawful redactions.
5. Consideration of sanctions available under the Localism Act 2011 should breaches be established.
This petition does not seek to pre-judge the outcome of any investigation. Rather, it reflects the fundamental democratic principle that elected representatives must be accountable, transparent, and beyond reproach in both their public and private conduct where it impacts public trust.
The need to address this issue is urgent. Authorities have the power and responsibility to ensure that candidates standing for election are held to the highest ethical standards. This includes conducting thorough background checks and assessments to vet any connections to criminal activities, ensuring only those with unblemished records are eligible for public roles.
Sign this petition to urge the electoral commission to take immediate action in disqualifying candidates with ties to criminal investigations. Let's work together to protect our democracy and ensure our leaders reflect the values we hold dear.
