20 years ago this November 7th, 9 year old Kawaldeep Singh, 4th grade student at St. James Catholic School, was murdered by his father. A bullet to the head left his small, lifeless body lying in the school’s front parking lot. The following year, a scholarship was founded by St. James in his name, memory and honor. For nearly 18 years, it was annually awarded to an 8th grader who exemplified all things Kawaldeep; kind, giving, selfless and loving. Unfortunately, the “Kawaldeep Singh Scholarship” has since been renamed to the “Father Mike Scholarship”- a history-erasing move by St. James.
