The Bund für Geistesfreiheit München (BfG Munich) agrees with the request of Felix Klein, the anti-Semitism commissioner of the Federal Government. Klein wants to get rid of the "Judensau" relief at the Lutherkirche in Wittenberg.

In Germany, there are at least 20 such obnoxious sculptures on Christian churches - in Bavaria, for example. to churches in Bayreuth, Regensburg, Nuremberg or Bamberg, whereupon the bfg Munich for many years makes attentive.

In view of the terrorist attack on the synagogue in Halle, the bfg München calls on the Catholic and Protestant Church in Bavaria to finally set a sign:

"Especially at a time when anti-Semitism and racism are spreading in society, such insulting sculptures on Christian churches need to be removed, or they are provided with signs that make it clear that the 'Judensau' reliefs express Christianity centuries ago This is so far the case with the fewest signs, "says Michael Wladarsch, chairman of the bfg München opposite to the hpd.

The image motif of the "Judensau" was created in the high Middle Ages as a frequent motif of anti-Judaism Christian art. "It was meant to ridicule, marginalize, and humiliate Jews, since in Judaism the pig is regarded as unclean (hebrew) and subject to a religious foodstuff, and mockery images depicting the Juden's motive have been documented since the early 13th century, and on stone reliefs and sculptures in about 30 churches and other buildings, especially in Germany, to this day. " (Wikipedia)

As early as the 1830s, bad names such as "Judensau" or "Judenschwein" have been documented in German-language literature. "The National Socialists took up these images and cursive words and used them for incitement, slander, humiliation and threat." The use of these expressions can be punished in this country as sedition. All the more incomprehensible that the corresponding figures of churches in Germany so far remained without consequences.
