Our libraries are pillars of our communities, serving as safe environments where children can learn, grow, and explore. This safety, however, has been compromised at the Moses Lake Public Library due to the presence of a NARCAN machine. This placement has led to escalating levels of fear and discomfort among library patrons. Homeschooling families are avoiding the library entirely, teens and children feel unsafe, and incidents of aggression linked to drug influence have put patrons such as a local mother in a distressing situations.

As valuable life-saving equipment, the NARCAN machine is crucial but its current location isn't suitable for reaching the needy or maintaining the sanctity of a communal public library geared towards educational purposes. Locating this machine in a more suitable location, such as a police station, or other locations that have already been offered, where trained professionals are available to assist. This would help draw a clear balance between addressing public health issues and maintaining the library as a safe and welcoming place for all citizens.

Now is the time to restore our trust in the safety of our public library. We call on the authorities to relocate the NARCAN machine from the Moses Lake Public Library to a more suitable location, making the library once again a refuge for knowledge seekers of all ages. Please sign this petition if you agree that the NARCAN machine should be relocated, for the welfare and safety of our community.
