The Issue

The Kleber Firing Range is currently situated in an area that is populated and was designed with no regard for the safety of the residents that live in line of fire.  This presents not only a significant safety hazard but also exposes local residents to constant noise pollution, which affects their daily lives, health, and well-being. Given the close proximity to residence and churches  this situation demands urgent attention from authorities.

Increased safety risks arise from the unsafe actions of careless people who utilize the range.  These actions include automatic gunfire, shooting beyond the tubes that are in place as a safety precaution, shooting in darkness, shooting when the range is closed.  These actions have caused bullets to escape the backstop and travel onto properties that are beyond the backstop area, placing residents and their animals and property in extreme danger of serious bodily injury or death.
The local community deserves to feel safe in their own homes and neighborhoods without the looming threat of these dangers. Furthermore, the incessant noise from gunfire disturbs the peace and tranquility that residents expect in their community. It disrupts students' ability to focus on their studies, impacts businesses, and diminishes the quality of life for all affected.

Environmental concerns also add to the compelling reasons for relocation. Firing ranges contribute to soil contamination through lead and other toxic substances, potentially endangering local flora and fauna. Relocating the range to a more secluded area of the Kleber WMA would minimize these risks and protect the environment from further harm.

Relocating the Kleber Firing Range to a more secluded area would not only mitigate these safety, health, and environmental concerns but also contribute to the overall well-being of the community. We propose that the appropriate authorities perform a thorough assessment to identify suitable, isolated locations for the range that will not compromise civilian safety or disrupt their daily activities.

We urge local government officials to prioritize the health and safety of the residents by taking action to relocate the Kleber Firing Range. By signing this petition, you are supporting a necessary change to protect our community and environment from the adverse effects of having a firing range that is situated in the direct trajectory path of homes in a populated area. Let your voice be heard and join us in advocating for this important move.
