Last night I attended the Homeland Towers cell tower proposal. It was as informational as expected from a representative of Homeland Towers, it was interesting to hear there were alternative locations, but reading between the lines, it seemed like it would be easier and less costly for Homeland Towers to install it at the town garage, right in the middle of a residential zone. Also, working against us, the town has an opportunity to make a lot of money leasing the site, so as they say, money talks. Which concerns me. The question I asked is "who decided to locate the cell tower in a residential zone, densely populated in half acre zoning, full of families with children?" The answer was the first selectman's office.

When someone posed the question "would you want your children or grandchildren to live near this?" the question was never directly answered, and in retrospect, any questions that referred to safety were avoided. The representative kept repeating the tower was "FCC approved."

Personally I am worried. Please keep your eyes open for the announcement of a hearing, and we all need to vote. Tell your friends!
