The lot located at 9th Street and Avenue Q has been home to a population of prairie dogs for years. As the surrounding area becomes busier and more developed, the prairie dogs are in increasing danger. Now the lot has been purchased for future development. Join me in calling on the owners of this property to clearly and publicly declare a plan for the safe relocation of the wildlife living there.

Prairie dogs are sensitive, social animals who need their community to survive. Developing land where they live without relocating them first dooms them to scatter into nearby neighborhoods, where they will suffer in confusion and isolation until they starve, are hit by vehicles, or otherwise perish, if they are not killed by the construction itself. This also causes them to become an intrusive pest to people in the surrounding area. Humane wildlife removal is practical, and has been employed by Texas Tech University and others in the area for new development projects.
