The Issue

Having volunteered at The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, I have witnessed first-hand the incredible care and compassion given to elephants who have endured too much suffering. Each elephant at the sanctuary carries a unique story, one always marked by sadness. Minnie, currently housed at the Commerford Zoo in Goshen, Connecticut, is no exception.

Minnie has been living in isolation, deprived of the social bonds that are essential to the well-being of elephants. This isolation is detrimental to her physical and psychological health. Elephants are highly intelligent and social animals, requiring companionship and the freedom to roam spacious grounds. At The Elephant Sanctuary, Minnie would not only receive expert care but also have the opportunity to interact with other elephants and experience enriched natural habitats.

Located in Hohenwald, Tennessee, The Elephant Sanctuary is the nation's largest natural-habitat refuge developed for captive elephants. The facility provides ample space, expert veterinary care, and a team dedicated to the physical and mental health of its residents. It is a peaceful environment where Minnie can heal and thrive.

We need to make real changes to improve the lives of animals like Minnie. The consequences of leaving her in her current state are profound, perpetuating an unnecessary cycle of suffering. By relocating Minnie to The Elephant Sanctuary, we offer her hope, companionship, and a life closer to what is natural for an elephant.

Join us in urging the Commerford Zoo to show compassion and commitment to Minnie's well-being by relocating her to The Elephant Sanctuary. Together, we can ensure Minnie receives the life she deserves. Sign this petition to make a difference in Minnie's life today.
