Relocate gym equipment for women's safety at Anytime Fitness
Le problème
Members of Anytime Fitness Atwater—particularly women—are calling on management to urgently address a major oversight in gym layout and staff response.
The back extension machine at the Atwater location is placed directly against a window facing the inside of the building/mall walkway. Because of this positioning, members using the machine are completely exposed to passersby. Men walking through the building routinely stop to stare at women while they perform this exercise—a uncomfortable and humiliating experience shared by multiple members, with some women needing partners to stand guard just to complete their sets.
While a gym cannot control the behavior of people outside its doors, it CAN control its equipment layout. Women deserve to train and bend over during exercises without worrying about voyeurism due to poor floor planning.
Dismissal of Member Concerns
When members respectfully brought this issue to staff on site, the response was hostile, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. Staff argued against the complaint, denied the visibility issue, and claimed that no other women—"even the fit ones"—had ever complained.
Women pay the exact same membership fees as men and deserve an environment where they can voice safety and privacy concerns without being insulted, gaslit, or shut down by employees.
Our Demands
By signing this petition, members and supporters demand that Anytime Fitness Corporate and Atwater Management take immediate action to:
Relocate Equipment: Move the back extension machine away from the building window to a private, non-exposed area of the gym floor.
Review Floor Layout: Assess the placement of all equipment to ensure female members are not needlessly exposed to building walkways.
Staff Accountability & Training: Address staff protocol regarding member respect, ensuring employees listen to safety and privacy concerns constructively rather than dismissing them.
Women take their training seriously and deserve the same safety, respect, and consideration as male gym-goers.
